Time for a big slab of hormigon
Ok, here's your last chance to appreciate all the detailed work that goes
into making a slab. Monday and Tuesday the crew completed all the final wiring
for the ironwork, finished adding the molding boards, and added boards across
the length of the floor to use for leveling concrete.

Wednesday the concrete trucks rolled in and out all day.

Of course the wheelbarrows again saw a lot of action. You can also see the
levelling process in action.

Meanwhile Valdovino provided the finishing touch by smoothing the surface and
placing fierro to tie down the floor boards.

Here Juan mans the vibrator to make sure all those cracks were filled. You
might think it looks a little damp, but the real fun started about a half hour
later.

At this point the rain started coming down in buckets. Pinhead wanted to stay
for all the action, but I bailed out and headed home to make a fire and dry
out. Heavy rain continued throughout the day and all night. Needless to say I
had a few worries about how the slab would fare.

The next day the surface appeared quite wet, but the maestro assured me that
everything was fine. Only a small section remained to be finished and by gosh
it looked like a real nice slab.

You can see that the pinhead still gets really excited over some things, like
sitting on fresh slabs.

At this point the concrete had to cure a bit, so we had time to go for a hike.
Here's some more pictures from parcela 31. We originally contemplated buying
this site because the views are so outstanding. We eventually picked our lot
instead, but I'm trying to convince the pinhead that he'd like living
here.

We headed through the woods, one of the best places to go to appreciate fall.
You might be surprised at the dense bamboo in these bosques.

Ok, back to work. The crew finished pouring the last little bit of concrete and
then started marking the room locations on the slab with chalk

On Friday the flete delivered a pile of wood in preparation for the start of
framing on Monday. The final task for the was to coat 2x4's with carbolineum to
protect against all that rain.

Next week we start framing, hasta la proxima!!

Did you feel the quake? How far away were you?
We also had thoughts of buying lot # 31 but then we thought we might have to many roofs below us.
